Benfica will look to salvage its Champions League dreams when it takes on Paris Saint-Germain .
The Portuguese side has seven points in five games but is tied with Olympiacos. Benfica lost and drew against the Greek side and would thus be relegated to the Europa League if both teams wound up with the same amount of points. Olympiacos takes on group minnow Anderlecht while Benfica will have to take on the group winner Paris Saint-Germain.
"I think it is always difficult to play against PSG because they're a great team, they have a great squad and they play every match to win," said Benfica keeper Arthur about the match according to UEFA. "But we will be playing at home in front of our fans, and if we want to be in the next round we need to win, no matter how."
The last time these two teams met, Paris came away with an emphatic 3-0 win at home. Benfica's coach Jorge Jesus knows that regardless of the result, the team is no longer in control of its future and must pray for a miracle.
"It won't matter what happens in the other match if we don't win ours. With time we'll see what we have to do here depending on what is happening in Greece," said Jesus according to UEFA.com. "It was there where we may have lost our big chance to qualify. We played very well and didn't deserve to lose. A draw was the least we deserved, but we lost, which was unfair. For how we performed in Greece, we deserve to have more points in this group.
If Benfica fails to finish second it will be relegated to the Europa League; the team suffered the same fate a year ago and wound up finishing second in the Europa League.
PSG has 13 points and will finish as the group winner regardless of the result in this match.
